Our company has a short but eventful history beginning
with founder Joseph Gatto’s first feature, OVERSERVED. Joe
wrote much of the barroom comedy on cocktail napkins while
bartending. Described as CLERKS meets Cheers, the humor is
served straight up and infused with realism. Gatto’s
raunchy and witty script delighted enough talented people
locally to form a cast and crew which became the basis of
his company and who found that working for free isn’t
so bad when everyone’s having a great time. The first
major Liquid Lunch event happened at the House of Blues in
Spring 2003 before the OVERSERVED shoot began. Joe screened
his Beta tapes of the actors’ rehearsals and
invited comic Lamont Price and band 3-Day Threshold
to perform.
The show sold out and helped to propel the film into
production at the Sam Adams brewery in Jamaica Plains.
Local entrepreneur
John Rule supplied the missing link when he generously
loaned
his high-definition equipment for the shoot due to
his fondness for the script.
Tony Flanagan, a close friend of Gatto’s and an accomplished
cinematographer, shot OVERSERVED, and everyone else became
good friends quickly on the fun and exciting set. OVERSERVED premiered for two days in April 2004 at the Regent Theater
in Arlington and was followed by a raucous after party at
the Paradise in Allston. Not missing a beat, Joe and his
merry crew went on to produce Keg Party, a music video for
the Average White Boyz from Worcester who wrote the theme
song for the movie. OVERSERVED came home from its film festival
run (Boston Comedy & Movie Festival, Boston Underground
Film Festival, Laugh is Hope Comedy Festival) decorated
with awards and signed by Digiworld Studios for theatrical
release.
On a rainy, autumn afternoon, we shipped the original
footage off to New York to be re-cut for theaters
on high definition.
Digiworld Studios will use cutting edge satellite
technology to release the newly edited film.
Our follow up film to OVERSERVED, aptly named #2
PENCIL,
purposely broke from the comedy genre to redefine the boundaries
of Liquid Lunch Productions, or lack thereof. In thirty-four
minutes, this dark tale of revenge invokes memories of The
Twilight Zone and Creepshow with a sinister and ironic twist.
It has already been shown at the Boston Underground Film
Festival and Woods Hole Film Festival as well as to a sold
out premiere event crowd of 600 people at the Paradise.
Two more scripts by Gatto are now in development. MINI-BALLS
is a comedy about three lovable losers who learn that surviving
in professional mini-golf takes big balls. CONUNDRUM is a
thriller about a mother forced to choose between her twin
daughters, only to be plagued by her worst fears.
Liquid Lunch Productions only wants to do two things,
make movies and have fun, and really they’re
one and the same.
